They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but a great live music image says a whole lot more.

The skill of a great live music photographer is in being able to capture the spirit of the rock star or musician framed within their lens for a fleeting moment, and capture that character and energy in an image that will forever radiate with the same qualities.

That’s the beauty at the heart of Three Songs No Flash, a photo exhibition that showcases the absolute best work of some of the finest that Melbourne’s live music photography scene has to offer.

Taking over Melbourne’s Ding Dong Lounge for the second consecutive year after a successful 2013 debut, Three Songs No Flash will once again splay the walls of the CBD live music venue with images of everyone from Perth cosmonauts Pond, soul swaggerers The Rubens, ‘our’ Kylie, as well as international superstars like Neil Finn, Queens Of the Stone Age, Lorde, Baroness, and many more.

Contributing their fine examples of being able to produce captivating images of live music for the world to see is a selection of 15 Melbourne shutterbugs who regularly contribute to top music publications at home and abroad (including a number of names that will be very familiar to Tone Deaf’s readers).

Three Songs No Flash will feature photography by Yana Amur, Scott Boelsen, Jesse Booher, Perri Cassie, Katie Dutton, Carl Dziunka, Rebecca Houlden, Ian Laidlaw, Lou Lou Nutt, Naomi Rahim, John Raptis, Brett Schewitz, Richard Sharman, Anthony Smith and Heidi Takla, offering photos taken from the sweatiest, most cramped of pub gigs to the largest of Australia’s festivals, and everything in between.

The opening night of the exhibition is Tuesday 25th March from 7.30pm, with finger food provided for the cost of a gold coin donation. More info at dingdonglounge.com.au and at the official Facebook event page.
