Tickets for The Dandy Warhols’ forthcoming Australian Tour 2014 went on sale yesterday morning, and already the tour has added an extra show to meet demand.

Headed Down Under this August to coincide with their 20th anniversary, The Dandy Warhols’ headline show in Melbourne sold out in under 90 minutes.

The news has stunned even the Dandys themselves. “Dang, Melbourne, you continue to amaze,” the band wrote in a Facebook post; “nicely done.”

A second Melbourne date has been announced for the preceding night, on Monday 25th August, at the Corner Hotel.

The Dandy Warhols six-date run of Australian capital cities will also celebrate 20 years since the group first burst into life in Portland, Oregon back in 1994, when four friends decided they “needed music to drink to.”

Last year also saw the band – Courtney Taylor-Taylor, Peter Holmström, Zia McCabe, and Brent DoBoer – commemorating 13 years since 2000’s Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia by performing their seminal third studio album live and in full at shows across America.

The sonic results of one of those landmark shows has now been released on a new album titled Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia Live At The Wonder, out this week via The End Records (check it out here), and fingers are crossed that the Dandys may repeat the trick for their forthcoming Australian trip.

Regarded as one of the best, most unpredictable live bands in the world, The Dandy Warhols have earned a reputation for delivering performances ranging from the unhinged to the on-form, but always brilliant. The last time they were in Australia was for the 2012 edition of Harvest Festival (RIP), along with a series of headline sideshows with Silversun Pickups.

At the time of the tour, keyboardist Zia McCabe revealed in an interview with Tone Deaf how the band take the good and the bad all on their chins. “Our creed, our motto for being able to get through life on the road and just life in general is ‘when it’s good it’s fun, and when it’s bad it’s funny,” she says.

They have plenty of psych-rock wigouts and hook-laden pop gems alike to gild their set, including ‘We Used To Be Friends’, ‘Horse Pills’, ‘Everyday Should Be A Holiday’, and of course, the evergreen anthem ‘Bohemian Like You’.
