The Kanye West Australian Tour 2014 has been officially been postponed.

After selling out multiple dates following the announcement that the ubiquitous hip hop star’s Yeezus tour was heading to Australia, promoters Live Nation have today confirmed that Kanye West’s tour – set to kick off in Perth on 2nd May – has been rescheduled to later in the year.

The reason? West is working on a follow-up to his 2013 album, Yeezus.

A press statement reads: “Due to unexpected timing requirements to finish his highly anticipated new studio album, scheduled for a 2014 release, Kanye West regretfully announces the postponement of his upcoming tour dates in Australia. The tour dates originally scheduled from May 2 to May 11, 2014 will now be played from September 5 to September 15, 2014.”

All tickets for the previously announced May show dates will be honoured for the new September dates without the need to exchange. “Due to unexpected timing requirements to finish his highly anticipated new studio album… Kanye West regretfully announces the postponement of his upcoming tour…”

Last in Australia as the headliner of the 2012 Big Day Out, along with a series of high concept sideshows, the 10x Grammy-winning rapper’s Yeezus tour matches – if not trumps – the size and scale of his last visit Down Under.

Touring North America and Canada last year, West treated audiences to epic setlists and all manner of theatrics – including constructing his own mountain during the course of the show and even meeting Jesus (see below). Joining Kanye West for his Australian tour is none other than his ‘Runaway’ collaborator, Pusha T, making his debut visit to Australia.

The news that a new Kanye West album will at least be a silver lining for some fans of the high profile rapper. The as-yet-untitled album, West’s seventh, will follow directly on from last year’s polarising Yeezus (though the late, great Lou Reed loved it).

There’s not much info on the new record, though XXL Mag reports that the legendary Rick Rubin and A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip are on board as producers. Meanwhile, Rolling Stone reports West himself has said he thinks his “next album is going to be eight songs,” as he revealed in a discussion at Miami’s international art show, Art Basel, in December last year.

“It’s just reducing down the amount of information that you need. People say a design is the point where you can’t take anything else away. [Yeezus] was very, very designed. I took a departure from radio and popular music in order to get this seat here. If I hadn’t made Yeezus, I wouldn’t be sitting here with this cool font at Basel right here,” said West at the conference.
