Tune-Yards Splendour In The Grass 2014 Sideshows have been announced.

Already headed to Australia as part of the 80+ strong lineup of the three-day music festival this July, where Tone Deaf picked her as one of 17 acts you simply don’t want to miss. Following on from this morning’s huge list of Splendour 2014 sideshow announcements, Tune-Yards is now confirmed to perform two special sideshows in Melbourne and Sydney.

Tune-Yards headline Melbourne’s Howler on Thursday July 24 and Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on Monday July 28 alongside her appearance at Splendour In The Grass. D.D. Dumbo, whose single ‘Tropical Oceans’ has served as a sublime anthem to summer, will perform as special guest to both shows.

A patchwork of sounds and textures – from avant-pop to R&B, soul, folk and Afro – Tune-Yards is the musical alias of Merill Garbus, whose explosive performance style and the always-surprising ways in which her songs unfold are front and center at tUnE-yArDs’ thrilling live shows.

Garbus feels that her goal to, “make arses shake a little harder,” and, “broaden the sonic spectrum of the songs” has reached a higher plateau on new album Nikki Nack, as she told Tone Deaf when revealing the top albums that changed her life and informed her musical world.

Nikki Nack
follows on from the critically acclaimed 2011 album w h o k i l l, a record that featured prominently on year-end lists. From the slow burning soul of ‘Wait For A Minute’ to the junkyard groove and playground chants of single ‘Water Fountain’, Nikki Nack’s innumerable sonic influences were honed with producers Malay (Frank Ocean, Alicia Keys, Big Boi) and John Hill (Rihanna, M.I.A.).

Joining Garbus for her upcoming shows is Castlemaine’s experimental producer, performer, and guitar wizard D.D Dumbo, also performing on the Splendour In The Grass 2014 lineup and whose own multi-layered loops and acrobatic vocals are the perfect fit for Tune-Yards’ own multi-tasking live show.

Following a summer tour of w h o k i l l in 2012, which took in Sydney Festival and Melbourne’s Sugar Mountain, tUnE-yArDs make a welcomed return to Australia with the newly released Nikki Nack and ever evolving live show for which they’re world renowned.
