A brand new Aussie music festival set to launch during the popular New Year’s Eve celebrations at the end of the year.
The newest addition to the NYE festival roster, joining the popular likes of Falls, Field Day, and Let Them Eat Cake, will be hosted at Victoria’s Phillip Island and will feature a lineup consisting of both local and international bands over three days.
The brand new boutique camping festival will be held at the Phillip Island Circuit from Tuesday 30th December to Thursday 1st January. Further details of the as-yet-unnamed event are “yet-to-be-disclosed’, according to Beat, who broke the news, describing the promoters behind the new festival as “seasoned and well-trusted,” who are expecting the inaugural edition to draw 10,000 patrons.
The new festival handily fills the gap left behind by Phillip Island’s Pyramid Rock festival following its cancellation last year. In a statement issued in September 2013, Pyramid Rock’s organisers cited “tough economic conditions” for putting an end to the festival, which had run for nine years at Phillip Island. …Describing the promoters behind the new festival as “seasoned and well-trusted,” …expecting the inaugural edition to draw 10,000 patrons.
Following its debut as a one-day event in 2004 – featuring Regurgitator, Magic Dirt, Cog, and Dallas Crane – Pyramid Rock grew into a multi-day, multi-stage extravaganza complete with camping, becoming a staple of the New Year’s events calendar.
But the rising costs of the Aussie music festival market forced promoters Inversion Productions’ hand for the 2013 cancellation. However, they noted that “options will be explored for the festival to return on a permanent basis in 2014.” So there’s a chance that the new Phillip Island NYE Festival is linked in some way, but at this early stage, it’s pure speculation.
The new event follows the debut of two New Year’s last year: the three-day New Year’s Evie, hosted at Boogie’s Bruzzy’s Farm site, and NYE On The Hill, the new event from the team behind The Hills Are Alive which sold out in its first year.
The Phillip Island event also follows a wave of new boutique-themed festivals that have sprung up in the last 12 months, such as Tasmania’s Panama, Victoria’s Paradise, Sydney’s Lost Picnic and Secret Garden, Cronulla’s Endless Summer Music Festival, Central Coast’s Mountain Sounds Festival, and dance event HOLEANDCORNER this June. Then there’s The Hills Are Alive, Boogie, The Gum Ball, River Boats, and many more established entities that continue to thrive.
