With so much new music floating around the interwebs, sometimes it’s hard to dig a little deeper and find out more about a promising artist.

That’s why The Profile is breaking it down for you. The Pitch takes care of the nitty gritty factual bits, The Plot serves as a Q & A with the artist, and The Plug is where you can go for more.

The Pitch

When your music is getting thousands of online streams without an official release, you know you’re doing something right. This is the case for Melbourne three-piece Yujen (Mitch Anderson, Sam Tilley and Bill Anderson), who found themselves amassing an abundance of blog appreciation and radio play for their first ‘singles’, consisting of ‘Try It Over’ and ‘Heirloom’. Since then, Yujen have been putting the finishing touches on their debut EP, No Aware.

The EP is the first release from new independent label Detail Co. started by Melbourne’s very own Nick Murphy (Chet Faker) and Jack Vanzet (Thrupence). Working collaboratively on the project for some time now, Vanzet and Murphy bring an eye and ear for detail in music, design and art, which they have been perfecting throughout their individual endeavors. Yujen’s No Aware is set for release on May 26th, out via Detail Co. Keep posted.

The Plot

Hometown: “When we started Yujen we spent a week at friends place in the far south of Victoria in the middle of winter. It was really isolated and we spent our time writing and walking through desolate sand flats and lookouts. We may not have realised it at the time but looking back you could say that it influenced what we wrote that week, through to the material appearing on ‘No Aware’,”

Influences: “Some of our strongest musical influences include: Dream Koala, Mount Kimbie, Seekae, Yellowstraps X Motel, Portishead, Tame Impala, Darkside, Jon Hopkins, Milo & Otis”

First song you ever wrote: “A song called ‘Tidal River’, it’s unreleased”

Favourite Local Act: “Seekae”. Sydney based 3 piece Seekae released the single ‘Another’ in August year after signing with Future Classic, according to their Facebook page we have another album to look forward to this year.

Favourite Local Venue: “The Mercat Basement.” Located on Queen Street Melbourne, The Mercat is one of the best party hubs in the CBD. Know for its killer party nights and pretty delish food, The Mercat is definintely woth a visit, who knows you might even bump into everyone’s buddy Chet Faker.

Dream collaborations: “(Tame Impala frontman) Kevin Parker, or Eryka Badu”

Dream Rider: “Moet & Chandon + orange juice Mimosas”

Best Gig You’ve Ever Been To: “Jon Hopkins 2013 Meredith set.” If you ever have a chance to see Joh Hopkins live, do it- he Meredith Set was one of the most talked about from the festival.

Venue Or Festival You’d Love To Play:  “Meredith / Golden Plains / SXSW / Red Rocks Amphitheatre”
