It’s not often that you get to hear freshly dug up material from a hugely influential band 45 years after the fact, but given that the Led Zeppelin archives are being plundered for their current remaster and reissue campaign, along comes ‘La La’, a previously unreleased instrumental recorded in late 1969.

It showcases many of the British rock legends’ many dimension in the span of four minutes – minus Robert Plant’s singing – with all the requisite Bonham frills, chunky organ and Page shifting from bright acoustic guitar so some fancy blues shredding by the track’s end. Usually ‘unreleased’ material is shelved for a reason, but in ‘La La’s case it’s not necessarily due to the lack of quality, but a lack of cohesion.

‘La La’ is the latest in a wealth of bonus material that’s been used to tease the 3rd June reissues of the band’s first three albums – Led Zeppelin (1969), Led Zeppelin II (1969), Led Zeppelin III (1970) – including a music video for ‘Whole Lotta Love’, a live take of ‘Communication Breakdown/Good Times, Bad Times‘, and other backing tracks and alternate mixes.
