Following on from their successful national album tour in March, The Holidays have announced an east coast run of new show dates. The dates coincide with the release of ‘Tongue Talk’ – the third single from the band’s popular sophomore LP, Real Feel.

‘Tongue Talk’ is classic Holidays, with a little added pizzazz thanks to some cacophonous instrumental frustration and lyrical wordplay echoing the song’s tongue-tied subject matter.

To celebrate their ‘Tongue Talk’ tour The Holidays’ guitarist/ vocalist Simon Jones put together a tour mix featuring the band’s favourite songs to listen to while spending hours on the road driving from city to city.

Kurt Vile – ‘On Tour’

“On tour, endless miles of white paint on tar. Load in, setup, soundcheck, eat, drink, play show, drink, pack down, load out, drink. A mantra for the road dogs, the denim jackets with cutoff sleeves and Motorhead patches and English midlands accents.”

Neil Young – ‘Tonight’s the Night’

“Bruce Barry was a working man, he used to load that Econoline van” – “Neil Young’s real and raw ode to his deceased roadie is a reminder to all road warriors that life is frail. We’ve been lucky enough to avoid any heroin related tragedy, highway fast food overdose is a more pressing concern.”

NEU! – ‘Hallogallo’

“We spent a few months touring around the UK and would put NEU! on while flying down the motorways, the motorik repetition of Jaki Liebezeit’s drumming is purpose built for driving and I highly recommend soundtracking your next long journey with this classic tune.”

My Morning Jacket – ‘Golden’

“People always told me, that bars are dark and lonely…. sure they often thrill me, but nothing could ever chill me, like the way they make the time just disappear” -” Truer words never spoken, being on tour is a 3-way time split between tour van- bar – hotel. But the majority is spent in a dark bar warming up the mic to no one.”

Tame Impala – Runway Houses City Clouds

“Flying overseas is the great part of touring, breaking out of the Hiace van and hitting the International airport, large baggage allowances and in-flight movies. We’ve been lucky enough to do this a few times and we managed to see at least 3 Owen Wilson/Vince Vaughan films. I also love the guitar line in the second half of this track, sounds like liquid smoke.”

Fela Kuti and Ginger Baker – Let’s Start

“Gotta get pumped up for the show somehow, stop sleeping on the dressing room sofa, turn the fluorescents off and turn on the little coloured revolving disco light, a touch of interpretive dance to Fela will get the limbs limber and the mood right!”

MGMT – Congratulations

“After a good show, all the tensions of the day and the tour seem to lift from one’s shoulders. A calm, satisfied relaxation sets in. We all give ourselves a great big congratulations.”
