Soultronica crooner Chet Faker has been forced to cancel the two opening dates of his first national headline tour in two years due to illness.

The Melbourne musician was set to kickstart his 13-date run in support of his long-awaited debut album, Built On Glass, tonight at the Wool Exchange in Geelong but management issued a statement to Chet Faker’s Facebook page alerting fans that the show had been postponed owing to the singer suffering from “lingering laryngitis.”

The date has now been moved to Wednesday 2nd July, with management offering that Faker “sincerely apologises for the inconvenience and thanks fans for their understanding.” “This may seem lame but its only temporary…”

A few hours later, the man behind the moniker, Nick Murphy, once again took to Facebook to announce that tomorrow’s Melbourne date had also been rescheduled.

“This may seem lame but its only temporary. I’ve been advised by my doctor that I need one more day of recovery from laryngitis. So we’re rescheduling the Friday 13 June Forum show to Tuesday 1 July. I hope you guys understand. All other shows are going ahead as planned. Peace and Love,” writes Murphy.

All tickets for tonight and Friday night’s show are valid for the rescheduled dates, while those unable to attend can get a refund via Oztix and Ticketmaster respectively.

Opening for Chet Faker on his forthcoming tour will be good mates Rat & Co., whose new album Binary has the post-rock/electronica outfit pegged as Melbourne’s best kept secret, and buzzing New Zealand indie group Yumi Zouma.

The tour is set to be Chet Faker’s final Australian dates before embarking on extensive international touring later this year in support of Built On Glass, which is currently sitting at #12 on the ARIA Album Charts after peaking at #1 shortly after its April release, earning Faker a newly-minted trophy for the cabinet, alongside 21 other Aussie artists last month.

Lead single ‘Talk Is Cheap’ has also just gotten the remix treatment from Perth’s Ta-ku, one of Australia’s best new producers. Take a listen and view the rescheduled Chet Faker Australian Tour 2014 dates below.
