Music fans in Melbourne are being gifted with a brand new pop up venue, set to showcase an impressive series of live shows and local favourites over the next few months.

Located south of the Yarra, in the heart of St. Kilda’s Grey Street, Lulu White is named after a “big ol’ husslin’, pimpin’, bad ass madam from 1920s New Orleans” and boasts a 150 capacity bandroom and bar that’s already had local punter buzzing.

Chiefly thanks to a series of pop-up gigs at Lulu White’s just last week, from the Findlay sisters of Stonefield, mighty Melbournites Kingswood, and international rock heroes Band of Skulls

Now the St. Kilda venue has locked in another series of ace gigs and parties featuring some of the best local bands and DJs, and just in time too, as Lulu White is set to be demolished to make way for a new apartment building.

The team behind Lulu White, a group of Melbourne party producers responsible for some of your worse hangovers ever (including Godzilla Bar), have until 1st August before the residential development takes over but the Demolition Party Series has selected an excellent team of demolition experts to tear the bar a new one over the next six weeks, starting this Saturday 28th June with a showdown between soul-funk crews Jakubi and Animaux (as featured in our top gigs column)

Upcoming gigs include bona fide mashup maestros Yacht Club DJs, nappy-wearing viral sensations Bareback Titty Squad, two appearances from China-conquering knockabouts The Bennies (with special secret guests), buskers-turned-indie-selling stars The Pierce Brothers, and emerging rockers My Echo.

So acquaint yourself with Lulu White’s, then help send the old girl out in style – who knows, maybe the namesake of the New Orleans matriarch will find her way back to Melbourne’s live music scene in another form in the future?
