Two of Australia’s most iconic music figures Clare Bowditch and Adalita are about to embark on the nation wide Winter Secrets tour. The tour is part of Clare Bowditch’s fourth annual Winter Secrets series, where the ARIA award winning artist takes her eight-album songbook and a special guest on the road.

Adalita will open the shows performing songs from her latest album All Day Venus before joining Bowditch onstage for part of her performance. As with her previous Winter Secrets tours, one local musician in each state will once again have the chance to join Clare on stage to perform one of her songs and be in the running to win a $1,000 cash prize. This year, the song will be the much-loved ‘I Thought You Were God’ from her second solo album What Was Left.

So far 2014 has been a busy year for Clare – she recently held her second Big Hearted Business conference and she’s continued her role in Channel 10’s Offspring, as well as acting as the Ambassador for APRA, PPCA and Smiling Mind, and being an active member of the Government’s Live Music Round Table Panel.

In celebration of the upcoming tour alongside Adalita, we asked Clare to give us a run-though of who she believes are the most promising up and coming local acts.

The Bombay Royale

“Funnest live band in the whole world how can you go wrong with a beautiful princess in a sari, a captain, and Zorro masks all round? Check out their lastest Kess Broekman-Dattner directed filmclip for Henna Henna.”

Courtney Barnett

“Courtney doesn’t need any introduction to readers of Tone Deaf. I will, however, tell you how I was first introduced to her, many years ago, which was across the bar at my local pub when she served me a rather tasty beer!

In short, she’s tops, she’s been making great work for many years, telling clever funny sexy catchy stories, and she no longer works at my local. Bummer.”

Sweets

“Annabelle Tunley is one of my back-up singers, which means you might not believe me when I tell you that she is a dead-set legend and a musical genius. She is both. This was from a while back but they’re in the studio now recording so watch this space.”

Teeth & Tongue

“I reckon Jess Cornelius is one of this country’s most interesting and clever modern music-makers. This track, Good Man, is taken from her most recent album Grid, which I suggest you buy. Don’t do it for me, don’t do it for Jess, do it for you. Because you’re worth it.”

Airling

“I don’t know that much about these kids but they came to my attention via Triple J unearthed and I’m really enjoying pickin’ up the sounds they’re putting down! Good one!”

Flyying Colours

“Marty [Bowditch’s manager] and I are such big fans of these kids that, well, he’s now their manager. Their sound kind takes me straight back to the early 90’s, which I love, and apparently so does the rest of the world because, not to put too fine a point on it, they’re kicking goals all over the world right now! GO LITTLE AUSSIES, GO!”
