A month ago, absent Aussie rockers The Vines revealed their new look lineup and plans for releasing the long-gestating follow-up album to 2011’s Future Primitive.

Today, the Craig Nicholls-led trio confirm details of their new record, along with the first taste of their comeback album via a new hype-making trailer which confirms that it will be The Vines’ first independently released LP.

Compiled like a movie styled band doco – piecing together magazine covers, archival footage of Nicholls’ bug-eyed antics, and plaudits like ‘One Of Australia’s Most Iconic Bands’ – the trailer confirms that The Vines new release is a double album titled Wicked Nature, featuring 22 tracks and set to drop in September.

Soundtracking the video is new track ‘Out The Loop’, a back-to-basics rocker that perfectly zones the trailer’s tone of a ‘comeback’, complete with introducing Nicholls’ new bandmates: bassist Tim John (of Sydney’s The Griswolds) and drummer Lachlan West (from Something With Numbers).

The first official single from the 22-track Wicked Nature will be ‘Metalzone’, out 14th July as NME reports, but pre-orders for The Vines’ first new release in three years are already live over at PledgeMusicin formats including double CD, gatefold vinyl, and digital. There’s also original lyric sheets and t-shirt packs available, and pledgers will instantly receive three new tracks from The Vines’ new album: ‘Out The Way’, ‘Anything You Say’, and ‘Everything Else’.

Wicked Nature is also the name of the independent label set up by the band to distribute their new album, which saw Nicholls’ co-producing the first half of the album alongside the Paul McKercher, the analogue-loving Aussie producer who was recommended to frontman by new drummer West after he’d worked with McKercher on the latest Something With Numbers album. His other credits include ARIA-winning work engineering You Am I, Augie March, and Eskimo Joe.

The second disc of Wicked Nature will be produced entirely by Nicholls, which might be an amalgamation of the solo material the frontman had reportedly been working on since 2013, as mentioned in old post from The Vines’ management, Park & Mr French; stating Nicholls was in the process of writing material for a sixth Vines album as well as “the first collaborative side project from Craig Nicholls.”

The September release of Wicked Nature marks 12 years since The Vines first released their career-making debut album Highly Evolved, named by NME as the second best album of the year (behind Coldplay’s A Rush Of Blood To The Head) and earning the band four ARIA Award nods and a win (‘Breakthrough Artist – Single’ for ‘Get Free’), as well as Platinum sales.
