One of the year’s best live experiences can be boiled down to three words: “Hell fuck yeah!”

The visceral catch-cry of Violent Soho’s fan favourite ‘Covered In Chrome’ has already been cemented as an instant music festival anthem, triggering instant moshpits at events like Big Day Out, Groovin’ The Moo, the Triple J One Night Stand, and bound to do so once more at Splendour In the Grass.

But the grunge-tastic impact of ‘Covered In Chrome’ is being neutered for US fans in the name of appeasing the sensitive ears of American radio. As previously reported, Violent Soho have inked an international deal with punk label Side One Dummy! for a US release of their acclaimed 2013 album Hungry Ghost this September, but a version of ‘Covered In Chrome’ has already been serviced to America radio – with the swearing removed.

“It’s hilarious how much impact you lose when you take all the fucks out because ‘Covered in Chrome’ is a three-chord pop song which sounds so good with fuck in it,” frontman Luke Boerdam tells News Corp of the censored radio edit. (We’ve yet to wrap our ears around what the replacement word is, but we hope it’s ‘Hell *forget* you’ à la Cee Lo Green.)

Boerdam jokes that being forced to remove the f-bombs for a new US radio-friendly version probably has to do with his own skills; “I am a horrible songwriter. What is my problem that I can’t think of better words? I really have to work on my vocabulary.” The thousands of grinning music fans that leave Violent Soho’s live shows with sore necks would strongly disagree, the same listeners who helped vote Covered in Chrome’ into its #14 position on Triple J’s Hottest 100 this year.

Fans can enjoy more ‘hell fuck yeahs’ from Boerdam and his Masnfield brothers-in-musical-arms James Tidswell, Luke Henery and Michael Richards, as part of Violent Soho’s current national tour.

Having already played two sold out shows at The Bakery in Perth with beloved Melbourne punk poets The Smith Street Band, Violent Soho still have another 12 packed out venues to play throughout this month.

“We were pretty blown away when I rang to find out how ticket sales went on the first day and Melbourne had sold out by 9.15am and we were already putting a second show on,” Boerdam says of the overwhelming demand for the band’s current national tour. “We just didn’t know there would be that response.”

Following their nearly sold out national tour, Violent Soho will hit Splendour In The Grass, with the Brisbane four-piece’s afternoon slot set to be one of the festival’s 17 must-see sets (according to us), where the crowd will look a little something like this:
