Banoffee is Martha Brown, a Melbourne-based singer-songwriter with an inexplicably intriguing presence who concocts futuristic, left-field pop informed by her highly-attuned R&B sensibilities.

As demonstrated by her acclaimed debut singles ‘Ninja’ and ‘Reign Down’, Banoffee has the effortless ability of fusing intricately off-kilter production with delicious earworm hooks and melodies to build delectable pop songs that radiate with her unique personality and oddball charm.

On her new track ‘Got It’, which has been a highlight of her recent live shows, Brown conveys the bittersweet taste of a souring relationship through poetically mundane anecdotes, somehow perfectly capturing the melancholic feeling of a growing emotional distance in the opening line, “Said you want to grow your hair long but then you cut the sides off/I don’t think I know you at all.

From there, the understated production tinkers with playful handclaps, criss-crossing beats and Banoffee’s beloved anti-Auto Tune vocals, blossoming into a blissful R&B dance jam as Brown’s silky vocals repeat the phonetically-dizzying and empowering chorus line, “I got it I know you know I got it“.

Banoffee has all the makings of a counter-culture pop poster girl  – an Australian Grimes or FKA twigs comes to mind – and it’s only a matter of time until the rest of the world catches on.

Banoffee’s debut EP is out in August through Two Bright Lakes. Listen to ‘Got It’ below.
