Melbourne music fans are getting a brand new addition to the festival calendar designed as a “celebration of Americana music, great food, and fine booze” set at a unique waterside location in the suburb of Williamstown.

Introducing Out On The Weekend, which has announced its inaugural lineup of local and international acts, dates, ticketing details – all wrapped and presented in promotional materials based on Neil Young’s 1972 classic, Harvest.

Fittingly the Out On The Weekend 2014 lineup features a fine array of influential singer-songwriters. Headlining is Justin Townes Earle, the talented prodigal son of Americana icon Steve Earle blessed with the namesake of Townes Van Zandt, joining him at top billing is Australia’s own wiley songsmith (and Bluesfest historian) Henry Wagons.

Also taking the stage will be Texan maverick Ryan Bingham, rising star Robert Ellis, Canadian fave Lindi Ortega, Nashville’s Nikki Lane, as well as The Delines, Jonny Fritz, Emma Swift, Chris Altmann, Raised By Eagles, and The Morrisons.

The new one-day festival, staged at Seaworks in Williamstown, is the brainchild of Brian ‘BT’ Taranto, director of promoters Love Police, who describes the inspiration for staging Out On The Weekend in an open letter;

“I’ve always tried to bring the best of what I see, hear and discover to our fine shores for us all to experience the good shit,” he writes. “I’ve lately wondered at staging an event that celebrates these sounds. One that offers great food with alcoholic drops of liquid gold at a cool space. Not a huge festival, just somewhere to get into it for a day with friends and like minded folks.

“Well, a few months back I found a home for this event on the sunny shores of Williamstown, and with that, good connections, belief, trust, fear and a lot of work, Out On The Weekend was born,” writes BT.

The event also promises “delicious music for your mouth” with culinary selections provided by Sydney chefs Ben Milgate and Elvis Abrahanowicz of Porteño/Bodega fame, as well as Melbourne’s Raph Rashid – the brains behind food truck mainstays Beatbox Kitchen, Taco Truck, and All Day Donuts. The full gourmet food and beverage menus will be revealed soon.
