Since releasing their celebrated By A Thread album earlier this year, Luca Brasi have shown no signs of slowing down, having toured nationally to raucous, sold out crowds. The guys are currently supporting Violent Soho on the second leg of their massive sold out Australian tour, Tasmania’s Luca Brasi have just announced a new run of headline dates for September and  October he ‘Get Sad See Mates’ tour will take in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Bunbury and Sydney, as well as stopping off to perform at Brisbane’s annual BigSound conference.

In celebration of the band’s success and their upcoming tour we chatted with the band’s vocalist/ bass player Tyler Richardson who gave us a little insight into who are the best bands to come out of the great (but sometimes forgotten) state of Tasmania.

The Scandal

To me Never Hold To Shore, The Scandal’s full length, is what sums up Tassie music: DIY, dynamically vast, a wide emotional range and just a proper mesmerising effort. This band are who I wanted to be when I was beginning to go to shows and their musical ability is still something I strive towards. So criminally underrated, but those who know, know. Never officially broken up, I still hold onto hope that I’ll see them again. I love The Scandal.

The Nation Blue

Tassie expats (some of them) The Nation Blue don’t need an intro. Huge noise/punk/insanity from a three-piece band. I don’t give a shit where they live now; to us they are Tassie as it comes. Amazing live and the best dudes out there, a massive influence on so many people. An absolute sonic force.

Linc Le Fevre & The Insiders

Linc is the mayor of bloody Tassie, with a drink named in his honour from his number 67 polling in Tassie legends list (the 67’ Le Fevre). Seemingly everyone in the island state knows this man. Linc is the ultimate story teller/troubadour, he taught music to all my mates at College and I first heard him solo at a local pub. Ever since then he’s been a great mate and with his band The Insiders and his recent Melbourne relocation he’s become a Melbourne staple, he also co-produced all our records!

Ballpoint

The band that I looked up to so much when I started going to shows. Super clever lyrics and riffs: the lot. I miss this band so much, always the most entertaining dudes around. Their album “Get Loose” is often revisited and every song is a sing along. Love the boys and miss them being a band.

Stand Defiant

Technical, angry and fast punk rock. These guys are also a huge influence on Luca Brasi, especially early on when these were the guys we wanted to play with and the band we wanted to see. This band and the members did a lot for the Tasmanian music scene; a band we are all very thankful for. Too many bands on this list are extinct.

Speech Patterns

Tassie’s finest new upstarts, seriously technically proficient and fast but with a huge heart lyrically. They are Tassie’s band to watch right now and I can’t stress enough how much you’ll be hearing from this band in the future. SO goddamn talented that it hurts, also not shy of a party, something which is a constant throughout this entire list.
