Writer and bonafide metal head Brain Griffin is currently in the process of creating the definitive encyclopedia of Australian heavy metal. The process began when Griffin founded the websiteThe Australian Metal Guide back in 1997. The first, incomplete version of the encyclopedia was published as The Australian Metal Guide by German publisher Iron Pages in 2005. With this upcoming latest version, Griffin hopes to update, revise and finalise research into this subject thanks to help of writers, reviewers, fans and artists across Australia since the late 1990s.

Creating an encyclopedia of any sort is obviously no small feat, but reflecting on this nation’s vast and rich metal culture, Griffin in for a pretty huge task. To help fund the book he’s put together a Pozible page which you can check out here. To celebarte the upcoming book, Griffin has kindly given us a crash course on Aussie metal history, with this A-Z of Australian heavy metal \m/
