The War On Drugs Meredith 2014 Sideshows have been announced, with the Philadelphia-based band confirming headline gigs around the country this December.

Following on from being the first announced band of the Meredith Music Festival 2014 lineup, promoters Handsome Tours are now excited to present The War On Drugs sideshows in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.

The band, fronted by Adam Granduciel, arrive in Australia in the wake of the critical success of Lost In The Dream, the band’s third full-length effort that’s been landing in the upper echelons of many mid-year best of 2014 lists – including ours.

It’s been an astonishing transformation for the group, building on the indubitable promise of the band’s first two long-players – Wagonwheel Blues (2008) and Slave Ambient (2011) – but takes listeners to another plane entirely, showcasing a tangible development in both songcraft and musicianship that teasingly reminds listeners of classic hits and hit-makers of yesteryear whilst retaining a unique and distinctive flavour of its own design.

It’s been nearly a year since the band’s last visit Down Under, as part of last year’s Falls Festival and Southbound lineup, including two sold out Melbourne sideshows. Their Meredith debut this December will be accompanied by hitting the east coast capitals for a string of intimate club shows to get up-close-and-personal with their fervent fanbase.
