In 2011 Dinosaur Jr. guitar virtuoso J Mascis, widely regarded as the grandpappy of grunge and fuzz rock, traded his intimidatingly giant stack of amps to release a game-changing acoustic record, the critically acclaimed Several Shades of Why.

Since then, J’s flowing white locks have grown inches closer to the ground as he alongside Dinosaur Jr. released 2012’s I Bet On Sky, which although a killer record, left Mascis fans begging for another serve of his rusted twang tones.

Thankfully, August 25 sees the maestro release another solo record, Tied To A Star, which will once again pertain to the same chilled out aesthetic as it’s aforementioned predecessor.

‘Wide Awake’ is the first taste from the 48-year olds upcoming release, which guest stars longtime friend and collaborator, Chan Marshall of Cat Power, which if any of you were lucky enough to attend 2013’s Golden Plains, you would have seen Marhsall join Dino Jr. on stage *sigh*

The pair’s breathless, hushed vocals on the track compliment each other seamlessly, as J fingerpicks his way through 3:30-minutes of a sombre, sleepless state.
