After the unwavering success of their debut album, Melbourne quartet Redcoats have earned their stripes in the local music scene with their unabashed brand of rock and roll, harbouring some mild psychedelic influences that wasn’t lost on casual listeners.

Led by Emilio Mercuri’s powerfully diverse vocal range, ’Trouble In You’ finds the four-piece not too far out of their zone of comfort but with enough progressive depth so as to establish themselves a new creative identity. Starting out with more trance like guitars backed by a systematic backing drums then throw themselves into a more powerful rock and roll number.

With the more spacey, psych-rock sound reminiscent of ‘Mean Money’, the close to nine-minute opus from the band’s first full-length, it seems that Redcoats are adding more textured layers to their already tightly structured sound. If this is the direction to be taken for the group’s upcoming sophomore album, then chances are we’ll be in for a similar ride as before, but really, what more could you want?
