It’s fitting that the film clip for Karen O’s new song ‘Rapt’ is essentially two minutes of the singer floating lazily under water – her sound washes around you like a wave, slowly suspending you in its airy, dreamy lightness.

The simple, stripped back, demo-like track gently pulls you through the ebbs and flows of its low-fi current, bringing a sense of tranquility that’s juxtaposed with burning lyrics like “Love’s a f***ing bitch”; and “Do I really need another habit like you?”

A murky slow burner, ‘Rapt’ fades away after just 1.56, making it more of a teaser to the record than a first single. Less like her latest work with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more like her Oscar nominated track ‘Moon Song’, (or a less raucous B-side to the Where The Wild Things Are soundtrack), Rapt is an exercise in pure loveliness.

Let it lap around you a dozen or so times today and lament that we still have to wait over a month for the release of her debut album Crush Songs.
