Though the Soundwave 2015 lineup rumours have been building steam for months, organisers have now begun officially announcing bands through a drip-feed of information before the full lineup drops later this month.

Several artists have already been leaked or confirmed to be on next year’s bill, thanks to the fertile twitter feed of promoter AJ Maddah, but last night the first of five official announcements delivered the first official band of the Soundwave 2015 lineup.

Japan’s Coldrain, a five-piece metalcore outfit from Nagoya, will be heading to Australia next February and March to play the new two-day edition of the festival. Coldrain will release their third and latest studio album The Revelation this week, complete with a 16-track Australian Deluxe Edition, preceded by first single ‘The War Is On’.

Additionally, according to Maddah, Coldrain “are definitely not the only Japanese band” on the festival lineup.

There will be one Soundwave 2015 band revealed per day for the next four days before the full lineup, which has “four headiners” and around 90 bands, is announced in the coming weeks.

Two other bands previously confirmed by Maddah that you can expect to appear on the lineup will be Melbourne hardcore outfit Confession and crowdfunding record-holders Ne Obliviscaris.

The Soundwave 2015 lineup will be announced in two halves later this month. First, in a single list with all bands to coincide with the sale of weekend tickets, then a second announcement splitting bands by day as single day tickets going on sale – as Maddah explained of the new expanded format (inspired by Stereosonic).

“Putting the line-up across 2 days enables us to minimise clashes; give bands longer sets, better staging, production & infrastructure,” says the promoter. “In recent years we have lost great bands over too many bands wanting to play after dark … This new set-up also gives us twice the dark!”
