Metal titans Slipknot are back in action and following on from releasing their first new material in six years, frontman Corey Taylor has announced plans for a world tour that will “definitely” include visiting Australia early next year.

Taylor says the band are “shooting for” for an October release for their as-yet-unnamed new album in a recent interview with BBC Radio 1 (via Music Feeds), followed by extensive touring. “Starting in October, there’ll be a couple of months of touring, mainly in the US and shooting over to do those two Knotfests in Japan,” says the frontman.

“And then break, obviously, for the holidays. And then next year, we’re gonna start slowly moving out to the rest of the world,” Taylor continues. “I know we’re eyeing Europe and the UK, we’re definitely looking at Australia, we’re looking at South America, Canada.”

An early 2015 visit would mark the first visit from Slipknot Down Under in two years, when they co-headlined the Soundwave 2012 lineup (with System Of A Down).

Slipknot have already been heavily rumoured as one of the “four headliners” for the Soundwave 2015 lineup. Promoter AJ Maddah said back in June that he would be happy to have the band back for the festival, but that it “won’t be ’til new album.” His comments, in combination with Taylor’s, has put Slipknot right back to the top of the rumour mill.

The news follows Slipknot releasing new track ‘The Negative One’, which Taylor describes to BBC Radio 1 as just “a gift for the fans” rather than the new album’s lead single.

“We wanted them to hear a piece of the album. The single comes out in a few weeks, and it’s completely different,” says the singer of new track ‘The Devil In I’; “It’s more melodic, but it’s dark, it’s powerful, man. It’s something different. People are gonna lose their minds when they hear that.”

The frontman adds that the follow-up to 2008’s All Hope Is Gone is nearing completion. “We’ve got pretty much all the artwork done, which Shawn [Crahan, percussionist] did a hell of a job on,” he said. “We’re getting ready… probably in the next couple of weeks, we’re gonna shoot a video for the first official single, which is called ‘The Devil In I’. So we’re gonna shoot a video for that … that’s about all I know right now. ‘Cause we’re still finishing mixes.”
