As we announced back in February Motörhead will join the growing club of the on water festival circuit in September when they embark on their very first music festival cruise.

It’s a novelty, which is fast becoming less novel, you only need to see our recommendations of the 19 music festivals on a boat you should attend to evidence that statement.

Just like our festival guides to the Weezer Cruise and 70,000 Tons Of Metal we singled out MotörBoat because unlike a lot seafaring festivals it doesn’t seem tacky, but actually pretty awesome.

It goes without saying that unless you’re fan of Lemmy, Wizzo and Mikkey Dee this festival probably won’t (ahem) float your boat. Still, if you’re a fan of metal and the heavier end of the rock spectrum you’ll be well catered for here. The likes of Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament and Down amongst a host of others are set to make every metal fans Oceanside dreams come true.

The cruise, which departs from Miami, will make its way from Key West to the Mexican location of Cozumel before returning home. There are several extra-curricular activities besides the live music that will bring Motörhead fans together and allow them up close access to their heroes and other bands onboard.

Get all the essential information and find (even) more reasons to book in four easy steps below.

1. Book Ahead Before It’s Too Late

Flights for international travellers to Miami should be the first item to tick off on your checklist. But once you’ve done that you should book a reservation aboard the Carnival Ecstasy. Prices vary depending on how many people you wish to share a room with and whether you’d like splurge on oceanview rooms. Balcony rooms and suites have obviously been quickly swept up by the diehards, but you can still make a reservation with the cheapest 5-share room coming in at US $450 ($486 AUD) and the dearest oceanview room setting you back $1050 ($1133) .

Head this way to book a room.

2. Inspect The Ship Before You Set Sail

If you’ve read about the cruise liners that seafaring music festivals are held on you won’t be surprised to find that the Carnival Ecstasy is pretty lavish (for a boat). There’s everything from bars to a casino, spa, hot tubs, a pool, a gym, mini golf and so much more.

3. Research Your Destinations Before You Leave

So I bet you’re wondering what exactly you’ll be doing at Key West and Cozumel during the expedition? We’re betting that these serene locations will be the place of recovery for the many who party a tad too hard while on-board the ship. While the beach on Key West will provide plenty of relaxation you can’t miss the 19th century architecture of the Old Town. At Cozumel you can also experience the area’s incredible coral reef, the Chankanaab National Park, with diving excursions and snorkelling.

4. Prepare Yourself For The Extra Curricular Activities

When the music isn’t playing there is still plenty (and we mean bucket loads) of things to do onboard. While the gigs and Q&A sessions will get you close access to the bands the contests, games parties and theme nights will keep you entertained. While neither the activities nor the theme nights have been decided on as-of-yet pay a visit to the festival’s website closer to the date of departure to plan ahead with your outfits.
