Usually when an actor announces they’re stepping onto the musical platform, the world collectively rolls their eyes thinking “great, another actor abusing their bundles of cash are trying to turn into a rockstar” but fear not, this is not the case for Aussie-born film extraordinare, Guy Pearce.

The 46-year old who has earned his bank working on incredible motion pictures such as Memento, LA Confidential and of course, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (just to name a very short few) has now bravely dipped his toes into the realm of music, and guess what? He does not suck!

‘Storm’ is Pearce’s official debut release, revealing a suave, smokey set of pipes that sound like a deeper, more matured Jeff Buckley before soaring upward through his registry to an (almost) Thom Yorke falsetto coo. Instrumentally, the track progresses as a funk jam laden with jazzy Tom Waits inspired bass and percussion tones.

This is the first taste from what will be Pearce’s self-written and self-produced debut record Broken Bones, set for release 22nd of August this year.

In an interview with news.com.au, Pearce noted he’s written and recorded music since he joined the cast of Neighbours way back in 1985, stating “I was very conscious, I wanted to do music myself. So I’d make music but, in my loungeroom, or playing with friends, it wasn’t public.”

Pearce plans to take a very intimate scaled live show on the Australian road in November this year.

There has definitely been some shocking actor-turned-musicians in the past, however, ‘Storm’ proves that Guy Pearce is not one of these basket cases, have a listen for yourself:
