The success of Vance Joy’s ‘Riptide’ is already a well-known quantity here in the Melbourne singer-songwriter’s native home, but the ukelele-led, Hottest 100-topping single’s overseas momentum could see Vance Joy becoming the next Australian to earn a US #1 Chart hit.

Though ‘Riptide’ already cracked the US Billboard Hot 100 in July, it’s been slowly but steadily working its way upward thanks to its dominance on specialist charts.

‘Riptide’ is currently #1 on the Alt Songs Radio chart in the US for the second week running (the last Aussie to achieve that feat was Gotye), while the single also rises from #2 to #1 on  the Rock Airplay chart, as Billboard  details. The achievement makes Vance Joy the second ever solo male artist to conquer the Rock Airplay rankings in its five year existence (the first? Gotye again). The only other soloist who’s topped the Rock Airplay charts is Lorde with ‘Royals’ (last year) and ‘Team (this year).

Hot on the heels of Vance Joy’s appearance at Outside Lands – the latest in a string of US music festivals the songsmith has played this year (including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and Firefly) – ‘Riptide’ is currently sitting at #64 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart (rising from #70 last week).

It might seem like a long way to the top still, but Vance Joy is bolstering his efforts by locking in a series of American dates following the release of his full-length debut album Dream Your Life Away (out 5th September via Liberation in Australia and Atlantic in the US). His headline American tour will see him travelling across the country throughout October and November.

By the time Vance Joy returns home to ring in the New Year as part of the Falls Festival 2014 lineup, he could well have another US #1 under his belt…
