The full Soundwave 2015 lineup landed last week, confirming nearly 50 artists for the hard and heavy festival’s return next February, and now the bill gets another addition: a band that just last week cancelled their Australian headline tour.

Philadelphia pop-punks The Wonder Years were due to kick off a national headline tour next month but last week announced that they were pulling the plug on their eight-date run of shows.

“We’re devastated to announce that we must cancel our upcoming Australian tour due to circumstances beyond out control,” wrote the band in a statement issued two weeks before kick-starting their tour at Melbourne’s Hi-Fi on Thursday 4th September.

“We appreciate all the support we’ve had over the years in Australia and are looking forward to coming back as soon as our schedule permits,” they added, with refunds for all shows offered to ticket-holders through point of purchase.

Now The Wonder Years have confirmed that their schedule permits a return early next year, as part of the Soundwave 2015 lineup.

The six-piece issued the below image to their social media this morning, while Soundwave boss AJ Maddah also confirmed the addition to the bill by sharing the news on his fertile Twitter feed. “So I was at Reading Festival today and ran into these guys,” he wrote.

The news has drawn mixed reactions from fans on social media, with several lamenting the lack of a Perth date – as originally scheduled; “I’m not angry with the band. I’m just saying I’m gutted I’ll have to book a plane ticket if I want to see you guys now,” wrote one commenter.

Others criticised the Soundwave addition as an ill-fitting replacement for a headline tour. One slammed the news as “fucking shit. Either playing a tour where people can actually afford to see the show and they go to every city, or a massive festival where they’ll play a 30 minute set and maybe a sideshow in one city.”

“These are separate things, dude,” the band responded. “I won’t go into detail, but we have a long list of reasons that we had to drop that tour.”

The Wonder Years are expected to be a part of a second Soundwave 2015 lineup announcement, dropping sometime in September, which will contain “around 14 bands” according to Maddah and coincide with the sale of one-day tickets for the new weekend-long festival format, priced at $120 (+b/f).

Full two-day tickets are priced at $188 (+b/f) and go on general sale next Friday 29th August, at 9am.
