Indie pop punk Melbournians Skyways Are Highways have been making wave locally thanks to the release of their addictive single ‘Holiday’ which not only garnered them triple j love but also snagged the four piece a management deal.

The band have just dropped their new EP titled I Found My Fear, and will be playing a home show at The Evelyn Hotel this week before heading out on a national tour in November to celebrate. Before you catch the guys and girls on the road, read their EP track by track written vocalist/ guitarist Eli Hood and more about these infectiously upbeat pop punks.

Holiday

“Full of pumping beats and infectious hooks, this song is a challenge to the heart. It’s a dare to dream of an escape.

Complemented with defiant horns and hammering keys, it’s a deep-sea dive into the endless summer of imagination.”

Demon To Brave

“A simple structure with dense instrumentation, ‘Demon To Brave’ shows off Skyways beautiful harmonies and vocal arrangements. The sweet harmonies are offset with a boisterous and rumbling rhythm section, and a pure Rock ‘n’ Roll instrumental leading into a clever key change. Packed with boundless energy, Skyways Are Highways do a love song with more grandeur than your average pop band.”

Would You Still Believe In Me?

“The most intimate lyric on the EP, the insecurities within ‘Would You Still Believe In Me’ are hidden behind a wall of super fun, raucous sunshine punk. Showing that even when you’re sad as hell, you can be introspective AND jump around like a damn fool!

The songs backbone is an R&B driven bassline which kick-starts the track. The song closes with an unexpected and beautiful time signature change.”

In My Neighbourhood

“Another showcase of Skyways gorgeous harmonies, ‘In My Neighbourhood’ features harmonies building throughout the entire song, culminating in a smoothly layered A cappella vocal tag.

A song of regret, the horns in the middle 8 set the scene of a sexy/cool 60’s cop TV show. Energy abounds, which has been a constant and rising factor for this EP.”

Found My Fear

“An unexpected and bitter-sweet conclusion to the EP, Found My Fear offers a little closure, but finishes abruptly leaving the listener on the edge of their seat, eager to know what happens next.

A slow verse builds until every instrument falls away, leaving the second half of the track sung in beautifully rising and falling A cappella.

A suitably loud and crashing final chord builds up into the climax and we are left with just the lone lead vocal, which trails off and onto a new, secret adventure.”
