Whether it’s indie artists being offered the chance to score $50k for international exposure, or Melbourne songwriters afforded a once-in-a-lifetime prize – we love sharing killer opportunities for Aussie music-makers ’round these parts.

Now comes another awesome opportunity for bands and filmmakers, courtesy of the peeps at Warehouse Cinema, who are hosting a nation-wide music video competition offering $10,000 worth of carer-boosting prizes.

Regularly hosting film-based events inside its rustic Brunswick warehouse in Melbourne, Warehouse Cinema has previously hosted comps for budding movie makers and their next initiative is putting the call out for music submissions that are “original, smart, weird, moving, funny, controversial, crazy, and/or all the above.”

Guidelines state that all video submissions must have been completed within the last two years, and each can filmmaker can submit as many music clips as they like (at $30+ GST per entry), but aside from that, the guidelines are pretty flexible.

Now the really good part; the band or artist featured in the winning video will take home $1,000 worth of music mentorship and PR from Melbourne’s 123 Agency, $600 worth of studio rehearsal time, a $1,000 professional recording session (with engineer), a $1k photography package and more.

Meanwhile, the winning filmmaker claims $1,500 worth of camera hire, $2,000 worth of lighting hire, a full colour grade, a year’s subscription to casting website Showcast, and a five-day studio or warehouse hire courtesy of Monster & Bear. (Full prize details below)

Submission for the Warehouse Cinema Music Video Competition are open now and close on 29th September. A selection of shortlisted videos will be announced on Monday 13th October and then showcased in a special screening at Monster & Bear Warehouse on Friday 7th November. The winner will be selected and announced at the end of the night by a judging panel of members from the Australian film industry.

If you’re looking for inspiration for crafting a judge-grabbing music video, you could always take the advice of Melbourne metal outfit, King Parrot – assuming they don’t enter the comp themselves.

If you’re a music-maker on the hunt for more major leg-ups, there’s also still a few days left for artists to enter submissions for the second-ever $50,000 Carlton Dry Global Music Grant (which did wonders for King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard) ahead of this year’s Independent Music Awards.

Additionally, there’s a little longer for Melbourne-based musicians to enter the Melbourne Music Bank’s career-making prize worth $15,000. All you need to do is compose a killer song inspired by Melbourne – here’s 10 tunes influenced by Australia’s live music capital to get you started.
