September 9th is the kick off date for BIGSOUND 2014, and though the speaker panel line up and the live music roster is the biggest and best we’ve seen in BIGSOUND history, one important part of BIGSOUND we haven’t written about yet is the parties.
Every year companies, musos and music fans alike band together to throw some of the best parties of the year. With so much on, it can get a little overwhelming, but don’t sweat we’ve done all the hard work so you don’t have to. See below for our recommendation of the best BIGSOUND parties you’ll be kicking yourself if you miss.
No Sleep ‘Til Wednesday
Where? The Woolly Mammoth, 633 Ann St, Brisbane
When? 6:30pm Tuesday 9th September
Why? Our buddies The Society Of Tastemakers And Elegant People (STEP), The Ripe, Good Manners, The Sound Doctrine, Cool Accidents and Collarts have teamed up to present a HUGE pre-party to help you kick off festivities in the best possible way. Hosted at the brand new Woolly Mammoth, the line up features some of Australia’s most exciting and most hyped new acts including Client Liaison, Oscar Key Sung, I’lls, and so many others. If that line up isn’t enough to get you primed, entry is free and drinks are free so no need to smuggle in any of those XXXX tinnies you stole from the apartment fridge. Get on it.

Title Track Launch Party
Where? The Brightside, 27 Warner St, Brisbane
When? 8pm Tuesday 9th September
Why? New PR company Title Track only launched a few months ago, and thety’ve been waiting ’til the rest of Australia visits up north before holding their launch party. With bands Sticky Fingers, The Love Junkies, MNTNS, and The Trouble With Templeton on their roster, good music is a given (Velociraptor and Deep Sea Arcade are headlining the night). Plus the Title Track folk are Brisbane based, so here’s your chance to party like a local. It’s free too!

COOL PARTY II
Where? Alhambra Lounge, 12 McLachlan St, Brisbane
When? 8pm Friday 12th September
Why? This is the second annual COOL PARTY, and having been at last year’s event, I can vouch- it’s pretty cool. Presented by Brissy/ NY legends Silo Arts and music aggregator Ditto Music, the COOL PARTY II line up reads like a who’s who of Australia’s best electronic music scene. Featuring UV BOI, Tincture and Oisima performing live, you’ll quickly forget that BIGSOUND is almost over as you rage until Saturday. What makes COOL PARTY II even cooler is it features a DJ set from Anthony Fantano (the internet’s biggest music nerd) I hope he plays some bangers.

Mushroom + Sonos Free For All
Where? The Flying Cock, 388 Brunswick St, Brisbane
When? 8pm Tuesday 9th September
Why? Mushroom have teamed up pioneers of wireless sound Sonos to present Free For All – a massive celebration of booze, music and mates. BAD//DREEMS, The Creases, Lurch & Chief and Steve Smyth will be performing live, while the rest of the night is soundtracked by some killer curated mixes. They’ll also be launching their new Spotify app on the night which is great and all, but CAPI and Sailor Jerry will be providing complementary drinks which is an absolute winner.

10 Years Of Native Tongue
Where? The Brightside carpark, 27 Warner St, Brisbane
When? 5pm Wednesday 10th September
Why? Wednesday night at BIGSOUND is THE music night, before you head out on your well scheduled live music tour though out the Valley, you should get started at Native Tongue’s 10th Birthday celebration. Music publishers Native Tongue will be taking over The Brightside carpark (JBL Live Music stage) to bring you some killer live performances from APES, BONJAH, Olympic Ayres, Tin Sparrow and Marlon Williams. Live music lovers Coopers will kindly be supplying a few cheeky Pale Ales while Thatchers are bringing their Gold Cider to the party. Native Tongue know partying on an empty stomach can have some ugly consequences so there will be bratwursts and vegan hot dogs grilling on the BBQ from 5PM.

Live In Levis
Where? BIGSOUND Village, 381 Brunswick St, Brisbane
When? 12:30pm, Thursday 11th September
Why? Who says you can’t party in the day? Iconic jeans perveyours Levis have teamed up with BIGSOUND to put on a rocking lunch time party on the last official day of the festival. Featuring Holy Holy, Thelma Plub, and a band who are doing pretty well for themselves at the moment KINGSWOOD will be performing while The Levi’s® Tailor Shop will also be taking centre stage offering its unique customised experience at BIGSOUND and the Levi’s®
