Brisbane collective Orphans Orphans arrived earlier this year with the pulsating, blitzkrieg rock anthem ‘Orphan’ shortly followed up by current the single ‘Lighten Up Your Day’. From the get go, there was no mistaking this collaboration of established musicians.

Similar to fellow Brisbanites Velociraptor, Orphans Orphans are a band comprised of members from an impressive number of other incredible bands including Last Dinosaurs, Millions, and Jungle Giants. We chatted Orphans Orphans ahead of their national tour to find out a little bit more about the guys in the band and their origins.

Aidan Kelsey Moore

Guitarist
Other bands: Moses Gunn Collective, The Family Jordan
“Lewis and I met years ago when The Belligerents stole Moses’ drummer! It was all cool though, we went to lots of parties and shows together and met the rest of the boys not long after. Now we’re in a committed relationship.
Fun Fact about yourself: When I was four years old my parents lost me in Bali. They found me the next day at the bottom of an empty well. It wasn’t that fun actually.

Spencer Gulliver White

Vocalist, Guitarist
Other bands: Morning Harvey
“I met the other guys at parties and through mutual friends. Now we live together. I went to primary school with Steve believe it or not!
My knowledge on cooking shows is phenomenal. Not trying to toot my own horn or anything, but yeah if there was a Trivia night devoted to cooking shows you’d want to be teamed up with yours truly.”

Samuel Conor Hales

Drummer
Other bands: The Jungle Giants
“I met the rest of the guys at Soi 9 Thai in West End”

Stephen James Kempnich

Bassist
Other bands: I’ve played guitar with Millions, also keyboards, samples and percussion for Last Dinosaurs. I’m now playing the long-wires with Morning Harvey too.
In Orphans Orphans I’m the bass player, guitar provider, pedal lender, and recording engineer – we produced the ‘What’s a Boy ‘Sposed to Do’ EP ourselves.
How I came to be part of the band was I went to primary school with Spencer, he looked different then… Everyone else I’ve come to know though playing music and going out in Brisbane.”

Lewis David Stephenson

Guitarist, keyboards, vocals, drums
Other bands: The Belligerents, Morning Harvey, Moses Gunn Collective and The Furrs.
“I met the rest of the guys through friends and parties and stuff. I bought a house and everyone moved in with me.”
