Incase for some crazy reason you missed them, Orphans Orphans are a Brisbane ‘collective’ formed from a number of other Brisbane bands (including The Furrs, Millions, The Jungle Giants, Morning Harvey and so many others).

Arriving earlier this year with the pulsating, blitzkrieg rock anthem ‘Orphan’ and shortly followed up by current the single ‘Lighten Up Your Day’. From the get go, there was no mistaking this collaboration of established musicians.

This October the guys will be hitting the road to celebrate the release of their debut EP What’s A Boy S’Posed To Do (out this Friday via Amplifire Music) by bringing their glam/ garage rock n roll hybrid to the East Coast of Australia. In celebration of killer Brissy bands, we chatted with Orphans Orphans singer/guitarist Spencer Gulliver White about who he believes to be the great Brissy Musos in history.

Lobby Lloyde (The Godfather of heavy rock in Australia)

“I gather hardly anyone from my era would have any clue who Lobby Lloyde was, unless you’re mother or father preached music from their time like The Coloured Balls, The Aztecs etc or maybe if one of them was part of the sharpie subculture back in the day.

Although he was born in Longreach, his rise started in Brisbane I believe. My mother worked for Lobby back in the 80s whilst being at Hot records (an 80s Sydney Label). He played in The Aztecs, The Coloured Balls, *early Rose Tattoo. He’s responsible for producing bands such as The Sunnyboys, The Machinations, Sardine v, ‘X’, Painters & Dockers and heaps more.”

The Saints

“One of the most influential bands to come out of Brisbane let alone Australia. Chris Bailey, Ed Kuepper, and Ivor Hay. I can’t say anything more really; everyone knows how important this band has been to Australian Music.”

Ed Kuepper

“Even though he’s mentioned before, I’ll happily mention him again. Some of his songs are the type nostalgic pieces you here and they take you back to a exact time. For me listening to ‘The Way I Made You Feel’ brings me back to long car trips as a whippersnapper with my family going down to visit the Newcastle family or standing on my godparents balcony in the North NSW hinterland thinking I was the coolest kid because I was into music my parents were in to.”

The Bee Gees

“A truckload of bands today wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for the Gibb brothers. Whether they are psychedelic, disco or pop. They are still one of the most influential bands in the world today. Straight out of Redcliffe.”

Regurgitator

Great band, great songs, great production. I always looked forward to listening to my brother’s Hottest 100 CD subscription each year because there was always the possibility of Regurgitator being on the list somewhere.

Powderfinger

You can’t go passed the Finger’. They’re one of the most successful bands in Australian history. You can’t get more “Brisbane” than Vulture Street.
