Jack White can’t help himself. After apologising not too long ago for offending pretty much everyone after a Rollingstone cover story, White couldn’t help but take a dig back at the publication on stage.

Last night in Boston, when the divisive rock n roller was experiencing a few technical issues and in an effort to keep his fans engaged, ended up launching into the best and most hilarious tongue-lashing we’ve heard a musician make while on stage in a while.

Referencing his guitar difficulties which had brought the show to a grinding halt, White declared that “most performers don’t use microphones anymore, you know,” saying most singers “don’t use microphones that have cords.” In particular he chastised Foo Fighters for having a second guitar player “playing the same parts so in case they make a mistake he’s still playing it for you.”

White declared that “the way he plays music” is when it’s just him, raw in front of the audience without the assistance of backup guitarists mimicking him.

Pointing out that you’d probably be reading those comments on the Rolling Stone website the next morning, White then launched into ahilarious diatribe about the decline of the once mighty music magazine into tabloid journalism.

“Rollingstone.com, brought to you by Jack White.”

“If everybody could please in this stadium, go to Rollingstone.com tomorrow, they’ve paid me zero dollars to plug them for tomorrow so please make sure they get at least a million clicks. Rollingstone.com, brought to you by Jack White.”

“That number again, Rollingstone.com! Brought to you by the Kardasian family, Rollingstone.com! 15 outfits that will blow your mind that Taylor Swift wore this month, Rollingstone.com! 10 reasons why Rollingstone.com didn’t cover the Newport Folk Festival for 50 years straight! 12 reasons why Rolling Stone won’t put a black-and-white cover on the cover of their magazine unless you’re dead!”

After talking about Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner’s involvement in trashy tabloid US Weekly, White stopped himself: “This is becoming a Kanye West-esque rant, per Rollingstone.com. Because apparently, nowadays, you aren’t allowed to speak to your own fans about anything, lest it be a rant.”

White has been causing all kinds of stirs throughout 2014, attempting the world title for the Fastest Record Ever, the invention of the gimmick-laden Ultra LP for the vinyl release of Lazaretto, which went on to smash a 20 year old sales record (set by Pearl Jam) in the its first week of sales, and even inspiring an Australian gelato vendor to concoct a Jack White ice-cream flavour.

You can listen to the hilarious “Kanye West-esque rant” below.

From Jack White’s PR team:

Dear dream-makers of the media….

Last night Jack White made a joke on stage!

There was a minor equipment mishap, specifically with his guitar, and in an effort to keep his audience engaged, he made a joke! It was meant to be funny and self deprecating: “hey sorry, you’re stuck with just me up here…” vs the Foo Fighters who have three guitar players on stage and regularly play stadium shows.

Jack has the upmost respect for the Foo Fighters and communicated with Grohl this morning.

So if you’ll let us, we’ll all continue with our day and we assure you: All is well in the rock n roll world.
