Music television programming in Australia has had a relatively vibrant history when looking back over the years.

Countdown, Video Hits, Rockwiz, Spicks & Specks and Rage are all deeply woven into the musical culture of Australians and some are former institutions that music lovers could rely on for decent music coverage.

Not least of all is Recovery, the show that did as much for live music and youth culture as it did for retro sportswear and the eyebrow ring continues to hold a special significance for millions of Aussies.

Want to feel old? Well, can you believe it that it’s been 14 years since Recovery left the airwaves?

In its brief run from 1996 to 2000, Recovery shaped the lives of a generation every Saturday morning. It brought the most-loved local and international acts of the day onto mainstream TV, and was packed with mayhem thanks to hosts Dylan Lewis, Jane Gazzo, Leigh Whannell and The Enforcer.

The show was aired each Saturday morning from 9:00am to 12:00pm, following the overnight video clip program, Rage, and was broadcast from 20 April 1996 to 29 April 2000.

Now Rage, who are 27 years strong and going, have announced a tribute to the much loved program, and hosts like Gazoo and Lewis will all be making an appearance, as discovered by FasterLouder.

This weekend, Rage will play selected live clips for the morning show and some full, unedited episodes in the night. So whether you remember the show or are yet to be introduced, this is the special for you.

The Recovery Special will help you relive that heady time when live music was king with performances from TISM, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Jebediah, Blink 182 and more.

So when you’re hungover on Saturday morning, tune your televisions to ABC, get out your hair gel, and veg out like it’s 1998.
