At a time where it seems that the formula seems to be set at ‘Gritty = Success”, there’s a band that dares to defy. Maybe that’s a bit of a superhero-esque introduction, but Melbourne’s ScotDrakula sure warrant themselves into that level of calibre.

They’ve always been pretty shambolic and loose in aesthetic, with previous singles ‘Burner’ and ‘Break Me Up’ doing wonders in genetically-splicing mope rock with squealing garage. But on ‘O’Clock’, the lead single from their debut album, ScotDrakula take aim at the past, and surge on by with madness and one of the catchiest rock n roll caricatures of this year.

Whilst every rock band these days is inhaling their parents record collection, going for the mine-and-mirror  approach, ScotDrakula effortlessly rebuild a bygone era, whilst adding their own zealous sounds. ‘O’Clock’ is like Bill Haley & the Comets being stretched  and wrung out, beef jerky style, and then embedded with all sorts of Australian ‘erbs and spices. The result is a delicious and very electric Nuggets nod with more than enough modern depravity to hold onto even the most ADD-addled.
