The Ocean Party are prolific bastards, like Ty Segall, only replacing the over-the-top fuzz with lackadaisical feel-good songs made by twenty-somethings for every demographic under the sun.

The second single from their upcoming fourth record Soft Focus, is a little jaunt entitled ‘Head Down’. It’s poppy as hell, like if Kylie Minogue decided she wanted to be in a Dick Diver cover band. The layered guitars lock into the coolest groove this side of Grease Lightning, and show off a sunny, benevolent outlook from the band.

Another slight change is the confidence that exudes from the track. A band that were talking about having a ‘Quarter Life Crisis’ just a year back, are now sprinkling light piano flourishes and a damn fine saxophone solo into impenetrable walls of dream-pop guitar.

If The Ocean Party continue at this rate, the whole world might be soon be moving to Melbourne, so they’ll be able to cram in and see this Hydra of good-vibes explode into the phenomenon they should be recognised as.
