Lindsay ‘The Doctor’ McDougall has announced that after 10 years as a beloved voice on Triple J, he will be “fucking off” to focus on making music. The Frenzal Rhomb guitarist will continue with his popular drive time show until December before bidding listeners farewell.

McDougall, known affectionately as The Doctor, made the announcement via an original composition titled I’m Fucking Off, in which he explains that he is not leaving to go work for a rival station, nor has he been ousted by the youth network. Instead, he wishes to simply concentrate on music and will be getting married next year.

McDougall first appeared on Triple J in January 2005, hosting the station’s breakfast show with friend and bandmate Jay Whalley. He has since clocked over 2,200 complete broadcasts and over 6,100 hours on the air through appearances on breakfast shows with Jay Whalley, Myf Warhurst, Marieke Hardy and Robbie Buck, as well as his own drive show for the last five years.

Highlights of McDougall’s tenure at Triple J include his 3,520 celebrity interviews, performed from 26 Australian cities. He’s broadcasted from countless festivals, including Soundwave, Big Day Out, and Splendour In The Grass, and has presented from 10 One Night Stand concerts.

“I think my favourite interview with Lindsay so far is when he kept referring to my pregnant belly as my ‘ukulele ledge’! Chatting with Lindsay’s like chatting with an old mate, which is exactly the way you want all interviews to be,” said Missy Higgins of the beloved host.

“We hit it off quickly and it’s been a pleasure to be mates with Lindsay all this time and it’s always been great to switch on the radio and hear his manic energy over the airwaves,” added Paul Dempsey.

McDougall will make his final broadcast on Thursday, 11th December during a big send-off. Who will be taking over for McDougall is expected to be revealed in early December.
