Aussies are killing it right now. Between Sia, Iggy Azalea, Vance Joy, and 5 Seconds of Summer, we’ve got more talent than the overseas market knows what to do with. Highlighting just how well our homegrown world-beaters are doing, Brisbane natives Sheppard recently performed their feel-good hit ‘Geronimo’ on Stateside daytime staple Ellen.

As Tone Deaf reported today, there are presently six Australian acts sitting in the list of the top 50 most-streamed tracks on Spotify, including Azalea who has two – ‘Black Widow’ and her international smash ‘Fancy’. Meanwhile, Sia’s ‘Chandlier’ has her placing in the top 10 most-streamed Spotify tracks.

In what’s been a lean year for Australian album sales, Sheppard have not only provided fans worldwide with what’s sure to be one of the most highly rotated tracks on their summer playlists, but have managed to go 4x platinum in their homeland. ‘Geronimo’ currently sits as the highest-selling Australian single for 2014.

With so much buzz surrounding the band that have become veteran promoter Michael Chugg’s pet project, it looks like the band’s performance on Ellen, one of the most highly-rated talk shows in the US, could just be the moment that the levee breaks and Sheppard become the next big thing overseas.

It wouldn’t be the first time. During a recent European tour, the band saw their star rise across the continent. In just four short weeks on the road, ‘Geronimo’ hit the top 10 in Ireland, Italy, and Poland, and became the third most-played music video in Spain.

The band are currently gearing up to embark on a run of US tour dates. Meanwhile, Michael Chugg is collaborating with US co-manager Scooter Braun — the man that made Justin Bieber an international superstar — on fulfilling the prediction of industry authority Music Week and recreating Sheppard’s Aussie success over in the coveted US market.
