The live music venue news just keeps on keeping.

Just last week we reported on three iconic performance spaces that were closing in Australia. Thankfully, today brings great news with the announcement of a pop-up bar and live music area opening in Melbourne, as well the extension of a favourite bar and performing stage to Geelong, according to Broadsheet.

The super exciting pop-up venue in Melbourne is named The Royal Croquet Club, which will feature food and drinks from Melbourne restaurants as curated by Broadsheet, and of course the most important part, live music.

The Royal Croquet Club will take over the hallowed grounds of Birrarung Marr for 17 days in January 2015 which spans over the duration of the Australian Open and Australia Day Long Weekend.

The suave new space will be decked out with giant croquet lawns as well as white picketed sitting areas where one can view live entertainment or just simply pass the day by sipping a delicious bev.

Organisers Grant Smilie, a known DJ and entrepreneur and his business partner Pete Sofo are delighted with the success The Royal Croquet Club has had recently in Adelaide, commenting on the variations they have made for the Melbourne setup, “The Adelaide Royal Croquet Club didn’t have a serious focus on food but with Melbourne being such a food town, we felt it was crucial to get this aspect right.”

“With Broadsheet working with us to curate the precincts, food is as much of a focus as any other element – probably more so, everything has got to be considered across the board so we can meet Melbourne’s lofty expectations and exceed them.”

The good news doesn’t end there, with the crew behind The Worker’s Club in Fitzroy announcing that they will be establishing a new live music space and watering hole in Geelong.

As this news is hot off the press, very few details have been given out. As their website suggests, you can keep your eye on The Worker’s Club Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for any updates and sneak peeks for the upcoming coastal space.

The Worker’s Club Geelong and Birrarung Marr’s The Croquet Club join the healthy stock of fresh live music venues that have opened up in Australia in the past couple of months.

Already Melbourne has seen the Shadow Electric band room power into full-time as well as the reopening of Brunswick’s Railway Hotel, in Sydney there has been the addition of The Roller Den, The Hub, and The Lewisham Hotel, while Brisbane has witnessed an explosion of great venues with The Brightside, Woolly Mammoth and ex-Powderfinger member’s stunning refurbished WW2 hanger, The Triffid.
