Our favourite Melbourne pub rockers Drunk Mums recently dropped their new single ‘Nanganator’, a follow up to the power rock hit ‘Plastic’. ‘Nanganator’ is and ode to nangs, whippets, bulbs, those cheeky lil’ canisters that your Mum uses to decorate cakes, and teenagers use to get high.

To celebrate the release of the new single the guys are kicking off a national tour which kicks off this Saturday the 25th October. Ahead of the tour we chatted with the guys about some of their favourite places stop off and wet their whistle while travelling. From a ‘hell themed’ bar to old classics, the boys have put together a pretty comprehensive list, check it out- who knows, you could find your new local.

Frankie’s Pizza

50 Hunter St, Sydney NSW
“This place is outta control. When you rock up out the front it looks like a greasy 24-hour pizza joint from New York. The entrance leads you downstairs into a dungeon where you can order pizza and as you walk through to your right and enter through the western saloon style swinging doors you see a row of pinball tables all in a rock theme.

The bar is filled with expensive boutique beers and there lies the only problem I have with the venue, but that’s fine if you are playing because the owner is a true rock dog himself and really caters to the bands by helping out with a generous rider of beer which includes a free pizza each. I saw Rose Tattoo play there for free which was amazing, one of the best shows I’ve ever seen and my dad is gonna be eternally jealous that I got to see them for free in a pizza joint/pub.” -Adam

Cherry Bar

103 Flinders Lane (near AC/DC Lane), Melbourne VIC
“All affiliations aside, Melbourne’s Cherry bar must be counted as one of the most resilient, hardest working and balls out rock n’ roll bars in the country. Providing you don’t actually get your balls out, you can definitely expect bangin’ tunes an eclectic range of people and an atmosphere divorced from the high-toned fanciness presently saturating Melbourne’s bar scene.

The bar tenders are babes the security are legends and the leather jackets many. The hours go by in such a fast paced flurry of shots, girls, fist pumping, buying girls shots and cigarettes that, before Slug’s gratingly high frequency whistle for last drinks splits the room apart, you barely realise you’ve been having the time of your life, again.

I mean, this a place I’ve been frequenting for years and I’m not one easily coaxed by sentiment, but I can safely say there is a degree of welcoming charm and belonging that can be found down on AC/DC lane that lies in stark contrast to the battered, graffitied walls and barred windows of Cherry’s facade. Amongst all of this, it goes without exclaiming that it proudly boasts the healthiest range of live rock’n roll music in Melbourne.” – Johnny

Devilles Pad, Perth

3 Aberdeen St, Perth WA
“Hell-themed bar in Perth, the inside is decked out in red velvet with stalactites coming down from the ceiling. Go there and smash some cocktails and watch the go go dancers before some live rock and roll from somewhere random like Japan or Melbourne.” – Dean

Dane Certificate’s Magic Theatre

859A Sydney Rd, Brunswick, Melbourne VIC
“Located behind a computer shop at 859 Sydney road Brunswick, This Small and strange pub has a great atmosphere about it. Guessing you could only squeeze 60 people in.

Dane was a one-man band who toured internationally performing psychedelic pop before he turned his attention to learning magic, Then 2 years ago he sold all his gear and set up this magic DIY venue. Next to the bar located at the back of the room Dane has set up a shop selling all your magic needs like novelty items, fags and fart bombs.

The small stage is set up really well with amazing curtains, good lighting and a smoke machine. The best part about this wacky venue is that dane (upon request) will perform epic magic tricks between bands. Great guy! Great entertainment! Great venue!” – Jake

LuWOW

62-70 Johnston St, Fitzroy, Melbourne VIC
“Fuckin Luwow baby, on aesthetic alone that shit is tight. Also Gogo girls, black light voodoo vibes.

Also I saw the 5,6,7,8’s there and I was getting some serious Kill Bill flashbacks.” – Isaac

Shady Pines Saloon

4/256 Crown St, Darlinghurst, Sydney NSW
“You would never know this place existed without some local guidance. Its entry is an unmarked door down a back alley just off Crown St in Darlinghurst, Sydney.

When you step in it’s dark, surreal and feels like a Southern Comfort ad. On every table there are free peanuts and the menu is all imported beers, whiskey and cocktails. Perfect spot to wet the whistle on a free day in Sydney. Piss that sports bar shit right off!” – Dean

Green Ant Cantina

183 Bunda St, Parramatta Park, QLD
“This little bar is setup in an old Queenslander house in our hometown of Cairns. It’s one of the only surviving bars in the area that has stayed true to being locally run with live music and still welcomes new idiots like us when we were young.

One day Kahl Wallis (The Medics), Rhys Cauzzo (Tomb Hanx) and I started a band out the front of our house on the lawn called Boys Club. Later that night we played our first ever show at the Green Ant and in return got an epic burrito. Unfortunately for them we played a modern take on ‘My Heart Will Go On’ by Celiene Dion with mouth organs and such. Five stars.” – Dean
