A violent incident that occurred in Sydney last week has left an Aussie musician recovering in hospital with a broken jaw.

Singer-songwriter Steve Smyth and his brother were walking home along Enmore Road in the Sydney suburb of Newtown last Tuesday night when they saw an altercation and attempted to diffuse the situation. Despite such good intentions of stopping violence, Smyth was allegedly attacked by two men, resulting in a broken jaw.

Having undergone surgery and now recovering at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Smyth’s label Ivy have issued the following, “At this stage doctors are unsure of exact recovery time, estimating anywhere between two to six weeks. We hope to have more news in the next few days regarding what shows will be affected.”

This horrific event could not come at a worse time with the ‘Written Or Spoken’ singer still deep in his 50-date national tour which has now seen at least five dates cancelled to ensure proper recovery.

Unfortunately, this incident adds to Sydney’s rough track record of street violence, which reached fever-pitch earlier this year with the life-changing attack on The Growl’s bassist, the city now under extremely strict drink and lock-out laws.

Not allowing his spirits to be completely crushed by such a shocking event, Smyth uploaded the following photo and message to his personal Instagram account yesterday:

Smyth dropped his brand-new record, Exits, on September 5 to a rouse of acclaim and has been charming hearts across the country apart of his huge tour since August.

It’s with great hope that Smyth will be back on the road by December.
