We’re intrigued and just a bit excited by the forthcoming release of a new iPhone and iPad device called an iRig down at Tone Deaf HQ. Admittedly we’re boys who love their toys, but this device could be revolutionary for musicians from the bedroom jammer to stadium guitar gods. Basically it’s a device about the size of a wireless USB stick that plugs into your iPad or iPhone which you can in turn plug a normal ¼ inch guitar lead in to and that’s when the fun starts. Using various forms of applications and software you can download, you can then use your Apple device as a stompbox and even then record on to it. Apart from the insane number of effects and types of amps you can then access, it’s also perfect to use with headphones for a solo jam session or connect up to an external mixer or PA system for practice, performance or recording.
