Just when we thought the whinging comments and bitchy diss song made by Sun Kil Moon’s Mark Kozelek of the War On Drugs had finally faded to a lame memory, Adam Granduciel of the War On Drugs has hit back, and within 24-hours of making these flagrant remarks, Kozelek has responded, releasing another diss track and giving flame once again, to the stupidest feud of 2014.
Kozelek’s new track is cheekily entitled ‘Adam Granofsky Blues’, which witnesses the Sun Kil Moon frontman laughing in hysterics as he reads aloud the comments Granduciel made of him when speaking to Swedish blog, Songs For Whoever, played over a fingerpicked blues riff, as Stereogum reports, which you can hear below.
The full story behind this nonsensical feud originated when a moody Kozelek complained that the War On Drugs’ sound bled into his Sun Kil Moon set at Ottawa Folk Festival over a month ago. Struggling to get past the proposed incident, the ‘Carissa’ singer continually trashed Granduciel and the War On Drugs in the media before writing a controversial song entitled ‘War On Drugs: Suck My Cock’.
Granduciel avoided any inflammatory comment until he was posed with the following question by aforementioned Swedish site, Songs For Whoever: “Speaking of rivalry. Mark Kozelek. What happened there?” To he responded that he didn’t care about any of Kozelek’s smack-talk until he wrote the nasty song, as Stereogum point out.
The ‘Red Eyes’ singer went on, telling that he’d received patronising e-mails allegedly from the disgruntled musician that Kozelek himself would perform on-stage with the War on Drugs at the Fillmore, under the condition that they would together play the songs ‘War On Drugs: Suck My Cock’ and ‘Beer Commercial Guitar‘, both of which were insults previously shot at the War on Drugs by Kozelek himself.
Two days later, Granduciel received a harsh e-mail from Kozelek that read “the offer has expired, maybe when I get home from tour I’ll go to Starbucks and buy your record.”
This was most certainly enough for the Lost In The Dream artist who finally hit back at Kozelek, “He’s such a fucking child. The song is just idiotic, he’s just a fucking idiot,” before closing “and then the Starbucks comment…what the fuck, dude. Get over your fucking self.”
And so the fight ensues. In reverence, we hope 2014 is remembered as the year two talented artists released two of the best records in years and not as the year two grown men publicly bitched and moaned about each other.
