Despite recent reports of the fairly dismal albums sales in Australia for 2014, there are artists that are selling plenty of records in the US, in fact, one Aussie group has reached just reached the milestone of half a million.

Having only released their eponymous debut record internationally in late July, pop-punk outfit 5 Seconds of Summer have now sold over a half a million records in the US, as The Music Network highlight. That’s only three months since its release date, pretty incredible, right?

As of the week ending the 17th October, 507,000 copies of 5 Seconds of Summer had been sold, charting the record only the 17th album to reach silver status State-side for 2014. The album is also the first ever Australian record to debut at #1 in the US.

Their success doesn’t end there for the young pop-punkers, having hit the very top of charts in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, NZ, Portugal and Spain.

5 Seconds of Summer add to the healthy list of Australian musicians that have conquered international waters this year. Already we’ve seen Iggy Azalea smash the Billboard records for holding both #1 and #2 song positions, Sia too hitting #1 in both Australia and the US with her record 1000 Forms of Fear, not to mention 6 Aussie penned-tracks sitting the top 50 streamed tracks last week, and of course the Australian annexation of UK, US and European music festivals.

These are all outstanding achievements by our hard-working artists, to which they all must be commended. We wonder if any of the remaining 2014 Aussie releases will meet such similar successes.
