Is the wealthiest Australian musical artist under 40 someone who’s been around for a long time, or a fresh face on the scene? Is it a member of a band, or a solo performer?

According to a recent article published by BRW Australia entitled ‘Young Rich Australians’, songstress Sia Furler is the wealthiest Aussie musician under 40 for the year, checking in at #96 out of 100 with an approximate $20 million worth of wealth for 2014.

There are a few interesting points to draw from this article. First, Furler is one of the scant six females in the fortunate Top 100 Young Rich list that includes the likes of model Miranda Kerr and golfer Karie Webb. She is the only new female to make their way into the wealthy group and is the only musician within the top 100.

An interesting point to note is a similar list published by BRW Australia last year which named Australia’s 100 highest paid entertainers of 2013, to which Sia did not enter at all. Sia would now sit at #2 with her 2014 wealth.

In saying this, it’s probable that Sia’s bank grew to extraordinary levels due to the release of her sixth studio record 1000 Forms Of Fear. Having dropped in July of this year, Sia witnessed her first #1 chart success of the impenetrable US, as well as Australia and Canada not to mention smashing #1 on iTunes in multiple countries around the globe.

Furler can more than definitely attribute a large chunk of her earnings to the vast amount of tracks that’s she’s written for other notable artists such as Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Rita Ora throughout her career.

They say money isn’t everything, but we must admit that it’s great to see such a hard-working, innovative artist reap the monetary benefits she so deserves. Furler is a part of the strong breed of Aussies who have killed it thus far in 2014. Already we’ve seen Iggy Azalea smash the Billboard records for holding both #1 and #2 song positions, our fresh-faced punk-pop band reaching silver certification in the US in three months, not to mention 6 Aussie penned-tracks sitting the top 50 streamed tracks last week, and of course the Australian annexation of UK, US and European music festivals.

With such strong performances by Aussies nationally and internationally, perhaps we’ll see more musicians enter BRW’s Young Rich List for 2015.
