Triple J have announced the first round of nominations for their tenth annual J Awards. The awards mark the national youth network’s annual recognition of the best in Australian music, with this year’s nominees in the Best Australian Album category featuring the likes of Chet Faker, The Preatures, Ball Park Music, and more.

Last year’s album of the year award went to none other than beloved Sydney beat-maker Flume for his self-titled full-length effort. Previous winners include Wolfmother (2005), Hilltop Hoods (2006), The Panics (2007), The Presets (2008), Sarah Blasko (2009), Tame Impala (2010), Gotye (2011), and Tame Impala (2012).

The full list of nominees includes 2013 Unearthed Artist of the Year award winner Remi for Raw x Infinity, Total Control’s Typical System, #1 Dads with About Face, The Preatures for Blue Planet Eyes, Ball Park Music’s Puddinghead, and Chet Faker’s Built on Glass.

To be eligible, an album needs to have been released between 1st November 2013 and 31st October 2014. Albums are chosen for their “creativity, musicianship and contribution to Australian music”. Nominees are selected by the entire Triple J family, with final judging completed by the music and on-air teams at Triple J, Unearthed and Double J.

The winner of this year’s J Awards, including the awards for Australian Music Video of the Year, Unearthed Artist of the Year, and Double J Artist of the Year will be announced during the official J Awards ceremony, simulcast live on Triple J, on Tuesday, 18th November.
