As Tone Deaf recently pointed out, some of the world’s most renowned independent record labels actually have their HQs located right here on our great, sunburnt shores. We’re now happy to report that there’s now a new addition to that family, with Remote Control announcing the launch of Barely Dressed Records.

Partnering with the esteemed Melbourne-based indie, Barely Dressed Records is the brainchild of artist managers Katie Besgrove and Nick O’Byrne (Courtney Barnett), who state in a press release that they’re hoping to open an outlet where “music loved by the label’s proprietors will be treated with the respect, enthusiasm and care that it deserves.”

“It’s not a particularly original or complicated concept, but it’s the way that all good labels should be,” they explain. Considering their partners are the ones keeping Client Liaison, Black Cab, and Dirty Three happy, they’re more than able to handle the challenge.

Barely Dressed’s first release will be Beloved, the acclaimed and much-talked-about debut from New Gods, comprised of Dominic Byrne and Adrian Beltrame (Little Red), Richard Bradbeer (Eagle And The Worm, Dorsal Fins), Sam Raines (Jim Lawrie, Dorsal Fins), and Dale Packard (Ground Components).

Having self-released the album online, garnering accolades including being shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize and later featured as album of the week on FBi Radio in Sydney and PBS in Melbourne, Beloved will now be released digitally on Friday, 14th November, with a limited edition 12″ available for pre-order now via the label’s official website.

To celebrate the release, New Gods will perform the album in its entirety at the Shadow Electric in Abbotsford Convent, Melbourne on Friday, 5th December with support from Peter Bibby. Tickets are on sale now via the Shadow Electric website.
