Just last week the folk over at Triple J announced the first half of finalists for the tenth annual J Awards, an honour bestowed upon an artist or group who have produced the best Aussie record for the year, and now they have revealed the remaining six finalists.

The fresh batch of contenders up for the coveted album award include Flight Facilities with their highly anticipated debut LP, Down To Earth, hiphop mainstays Hilltop Hoods for Walking Under The Stars, the prolific psych-garage-DIY legends King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s I’m In Your Mind Fuzz, beat extraordinaires Seekae with their soothing release The Worry, the adventurous post-rock record Love Of Cartography by Sleepmakeswaves as well as So We Can Remember, one of this year’s most exciting Aussie hiphop releases from Thundamentals.

These six join the already announced Remi for Raw x Infinity, Total Control’s Typical System, #1 Dads with About Face, The Preatures for Blue Planet Eyes, Ball Park Music’s Puddinghead, and Chet Faker’s Built on Glass. Pretty tough competition, right?

To be eligible, an album needs to have been released between 1st November 2013 and 31st October 2014. Albums are chosen for their “creativity, musicianship and contribution to Australian music”. Nominees are selected by the entire Triple J family, with final judging completed by the music and on-air teams at Triple J, Unearthed and Double J.

There are very notable records that could have made the cut of the final 12, with the likes of Andy Bull, Angus & Julia Stone, Dan Sultan, DZ Deathrays, Illy, Kingswood, Luca Brasi, One Day, Sia, Sticky Fingers and The Amity Affliction.

Excitingly, Triple J’s new digital partner station Double J (the “Triple J for over 30-year olds”) will announce it’s inaugural award, based on an artist or group who have had a standout year, and is judged by recorded output, live performances and contribution made to Australian arts and culture through their music.

This year’s Double J nominations go to Augie March, Blank Realm, Caitlin Park, Kate Miller Heidke, Mia Dyson and Steve Smyth.

The winner of this year’s J Awards, including the awards for Australian Music Video of the Year, Unearthed Artist of the Year, and Double J Artist of the Year will be announced during the official J Awards ceremony, simulcast live on Triple J, on Tuesday, 18th November.
