Sydney four piece You Beauty have just re-released their killer LP Jersey Flegg on vinyl (via Rice Is Nice Records) which they’ll be taking on the road with their upcoming east coast tour.

Jersey Flegg is a concept albums, and a pretty unique one at that. The Record is ‘pub rock opera’ about life picking you up like a sack of wheat and grinding you into the dry turf and baked earth of a suburban footy pitch. Described by the band, the record “follows a 90s league legend who has to face himself and his past after his is heart broken by a children’s TV starlet. As he watches his game fall apart and gets booted off the team, you’ve gotta wonder whether he’ll ever get out of the gutter and OFF THE BENCH….

To celebrate the release, You Beauty singer Will Farrier put together a list of ‘top five athletes turned musicians’ and there are some absolute pearlers in here, check them out!

Paul “Chief” Harragon

“The big boy of 90s league dons a bit of eyeliner for this clip, but he’s just making the drummer in a gold swimwear feel a bit less conspicuous. Always thinking of others.”

Warrick Capper

“See this is the smart way for an ambitious sports star to set up their next career and move into show biz – scatter the video to your lobotomy inducing new wave stinker with clips of you ruling at ALF, just to remind us you were good at something else if it doesn’t go to plan.”

Mark “Jacko” Jackson

“While 80s full forward Jacko’s first effort with tunes was pretty mainstream, reaching number three on the Australian charts, his later work as founder of Minor Threat and Fugazi still live on as the defining moments in hardcore.”

Anthony Mundine Feat O.P.C. And August

“Mundine was always a jack of all trades, having a go at footy before turning to boxing, so no surprise he had a crack at reviving that Tupac spirit with this trick. Rhyme-wise a bit slow on the ropes you might say but you probably wouldn’t in case you bump into him in Hurstville.”

Tommy Raudonikis

“This 70s NRL toughman is always late for band practice, but once he’s said goodbye to his daughter (who strangely chose to wear a bikini while out with her old man) he’s straight into. Unapologetic.

“If I can fit your dog in my stubbie cooler then you need to go out and buy a mirror and take a farkin good look at yourself!”

I didn’t realise but Tommy is probably our Western suburbs muse for the footy player in Jersey Flegg.”
