Two major Australian music festivals saw some equally major additions to their respective lineups over the weekend. In addition to Soundwave Festival organisers announcing the addition of New York rockers Bayside to their huge, two-day 2015 bill, Aussie electronic duo Knife Party revealed they have jumped ship, cancelling their planned national tour to join the 2015 Future Music Festival lineup.

As Tone Deaf previously reported, Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah took to Twitter last week to tell fans that a planned second lineup announcement for Soundwave 2015 would not be taking place that week. Maddah claimed that this was the result of his decision to add three more bands to the lineup. As thanks for punters’ “patience”, Maddah said he would announce two of the bands by offering clues until a fan guesses correctly.

It wasn’t long before one clever punter surmised that the first band was Fort Lauderdale metallers Nonpoint, whose odd Facebook activity earlier this year sparked strong rumours of a potential Soundwave appearance. After promising to reveal the second band on Friday, the clues “no metal”, “4-piece band”, and “from Queens, NY”, led another shrewd fan to Bayside, the New York punk rock stalwarts who unveiled their sixth album, Cult, earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Knife Party took to Triple J yesterday to reveal that a planned five-date trip across Australia will not take place this December as planned. Instead, as band member Rob Swire told the youth network, the band was approached at the last minute by Future Music organisers, who offered them a slot on the February festival tour. Their unofficial addition to the lineup will see them sharing stages with Drake, Avicii, and more.

“We were planning to come down and do a little tour over there,” Swire Triple J’s Richard Kingsmill. “But we got approached by Future Music at the last minute who said, ‘Instead of doing that why don’t you headline the main stage?’ We couldn’t really do both at once so we had to pick one and that was it.” Swire insisted that organisers “weren’t saying that we couldn’t , but it just wouldn’t have made sense, I think.”

This will be the electronic duo’s second consecutive appearance at Future Music Festival, having previously hosted their own Haunted House Stage during the 2014 event, which Swire called “one of the best festivals in Australia; one of the best dance music festivals in the world”. However, it’s important to note that FMF are yet to officially announce Knife Party and the band have not yet announced the cancellation of their December tour.
